A spring moth...

After two blank nights, two moths. The Red Chestnut was a nice surprise and turns out to be the earliest record for the county by one day.

Two early surprises...

A very mild February night for rural Northumberland last night. The trap was on from 6pm - 11pm and the temp was no lower than 8 degrees. As a result a few moths were caught including some early examples...

No 3....


Red Chestnut.

Nice spring moths, these. I've done well for them in the garden, having trapped 33 of only 34 caught in Northumberland this year. This is probably due to people not going further afield trapping when these are on the wing in April.
